Day 6: Da Lat

After spending the night in Nha Trang, we head out to the mountains of Da Lat early in the morning. Here’s a warning to all the Viet Kieu who have never been to Da Lat before: It gets cold at night!

I had to bargain for a fake Puma jacket at the night market because I was freezing in my t-shirt and shorts. I would have bought pants too, but I couldn’t find any that fit me that weren’t maternity pants.

There were very few rest stops along the mountains of Da Lat. Thankfully, my smart little cousin Bean showed me how to find a washroom anywhere in Vietnam. He calls it "hai hoa". Here are two pictures of me "hai hoa":

On the way back down the mountains, we stop at a little restaurant for some banh xeo. I have to go to the washroom again and make my way through the back kitchen to a small stall in a dark hallway. I look down to see nothing but a hole in the ground and a pail of water. I keep staring at the small hole and decide it might be better to wait for the next field of flowers.
