Day 5: Nha Trang

I have something to admit. I am ashamed to say that I haven't enjoyed Vietnam to its full extent. My fear of traveler's diarrhea has caused me to stay away from water, ice, fruits, chicken, and anything exotic, such as rat or snake. Here are examples of the delicious dishes that I had to say no thank-you to:

During this 9 hour road trip to Nha Trang, I've basically survived on a diet of com chien, Cha hue, beer, and Xa Xi. Everyone laughs at me, but my conservative strategy has worked so far. I'm the only one out of my family not to go running to the toilet during this trip.

However, during a boat cruise in Nha Trang, the ship's captain cooked an assortment of seafood dishes that I could not resist. After Vietnam, I don't think I can spend money in Red Lobster ever again.

My temptation turns to remorse when it is time for dessert. My family offers me a variety of fruits (Jackfruit, Rambutan, Durian) that I know are expensive in Canada – but I decline them for fear of diarrhea. I especially regret turning down a tasty looking fruit that everyone calls “Breast Milk”. Even though my stomach still feels good, I think this is the first time that I've ever turned down breast milk.
