History of Boat People

Following the end of the recent war in 1975, hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese fled their beloved country, mainly by boats, seeking freedom and asylum in a foreign one. This exodus of Vietnamese people led to the term: “Boat People”. Not everyone reached their planned destination. Those who were more fortunate to make it to the shores had to confront the forces of nature, elude pirates and in some cases, bid farewell to their loved ones in the middle of the sea. The struggles of these people have led to inspiring stories, depicting courage, strength and determination.
